The Nest in Empty!

Apologies for such a long break, but vacation time is vacation time with limited usage of electronic devices = no blogging!

As was to be expected, Erna did not continue nesting for much longer after mid-summer. When we went back to the Villa on the first weekend in July the next was empty, nothing left but broken egg shells:

Empty nestI hope she and her brood made a safe and peaceful trek down to the shore, much like her friend a few weeks earlier.

During July we’ve been seeing several duck families with varying amounts of ducklings swimming around near our shore, but as they all look the same to us I don’t know if Erna has come back to be near her nest or not.

It will be interesting to see in the years to come whether this nesting spot will be reused. I’m not so familiar with the nesting habits of ducks, so I don’t know whether they would come back to the same spot or not. We will see. If that happens you can be sure to read about it here in our blog!
